Meet your native guide at the dock and fish with him in the territorial deep sea fishing waters of the Tla-o-qui-Aht people. Along with hearing his stories of this wild ocean area you will catch fish – salmon- halibut, and when the catch is in, travel m to a remote bay where you will be transported in a skiff to the beach of Echachist, the Tla-o-qui-Aht sacred whaling island.
Once at the beach native guides will prepare a traditional salmon feast for you. As the feast is prepared a ceremonial canoe with bring Chief Moses Martin, a direct descendent of the legendary High Chief Nookmiis. During dinner Moses will share his wisdom and stories of the Tla-o-qui-Aht people, who have lived in these lands for over 10,000 years.
Chief Martin was responsible for saving the Clayoquot Sound from clear-cutting by championing the biggest civil disobedience act in Canadian history – and winning – so that Clayoquot Sound is now saved for all for the future. The man is a legend, and we are deeply honoured to have Moses as part of our experiences. Chuu.
